Who This Course Is For

This course is suitable if you:

  • Live in, or interact regularly with, Tamil-speaking community contexts where everyday communication affects ease and social connection
  • Are a beginner or near-beginner in Tamil and want practical spoken language for daily use
  • Want to communicate comfortably in common situations without hesitation, confusion, or social awkwardness
  • Prefer learning Tamil for real conversations rather than focusing on reading and writing

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Greet people and introduce yourself politely
  • Handle simple phone and face-to-face interactions
  • Make everyday requests and respond appropriately
  • Apologise, explain delays, and manage basic social situations
  • Talk about where you are going and simple plans

Typical Situations Covered

The course focuses on language used in situations such as:

  • Greeting neighbours and community members
  • Short conversations in public places
  • Making and responding to simple requests
  • Apologising or explaining everyday situations
  • Talking about movement and plans

Course Structure & Delivery

  • The course is 2 x 90 min sessions per week, for a total of 22.5 contact hours
  • Structured progression using CEFR-aligned materials
  • Strong emphasis on listening and spoken interaction

The course prioritises spoken intelligibility and social appropriateness.

Entry Level

This course is designed for learners with little or no prior experience who want to participate in everyday community interaction.

A short assessment may be recommended to ensure appropriate placement.

Assessment & Certification

Learners who complete the course may take a short post-course assessment.
Based on performance, a CEFR-aligned certificate can be issued to reflect the learner’s demonstrated level at the end of the course.

Outcomes & Next Steps

By the end of the course, learners typically:

  • Feel more confident using Tamil in everyday community settings
  • Understand common expressions used in daily interaction
  • Are better able to participate in short, informal conversations

Learners who wish to continue can progress into private or more specialised courses based on their goals.

  • To cancel or reschedule a class, kindly provide at least 24 hours’ notice.
  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be counted as attended, and no rescheduling or refund will be offered.
  • In the case of only two learners enrolling, the course will be moved to a semi-private format of 20 academic hours.
